The GW6 deadline is Saturday 10 October, 11:00 UK (14:00 Dubai). Haaland is owned by 73.9% of managers and was the most-captained player in GW5 — and Manchester City travel to Anfield on Sunday afternoon. If your mini-league is like most, almost everyone in it will captain him anyway. This is about whether that is the right call, and what it actually does to your league table either way.
All numbers below come from the official FPL API, pulled on 7 October 2026 ahead of the GW6 deadline. Ownership and price figures move daily — check live price changes before you confirm a transfer.
Where GW6 sits
GW5 averaged 48 points, with a top score of 126. That is a wide spread for a single week, and it is the kind of gameweek that quietly reorders a mini-league while everyone is looking at the overall rank.
GW6 is spread across three days, which matters for captaincy: the headline fixture is the last of the Sunday slate, so you are committing before you have seen almost anything.
The GW6 fixtures
| Kick-off (UK) | Fixture | Home FDR | Away FDR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sat 12:30 | Arsenal v Leeds | 3 | 5 |
| Sat 15:00 | Aston Villa v Brentford | 3 | 3 |
| Sat 15:00 | Chelsea v Bournemouth | 3 | 4 |
| Sat 15:00 | Ipswich v Fulham | 2 | 2 |
| Sat 15:00 | Sunderland v Brighton | 3 | 3 |
| Sat 17:30 | Man Utd v Tottenham | 2 | 4 |
| Sun 14:00 | Crystal Palace v Nott’m Forest | 3 | 3 |
| Sun 14:00 | Hull v Everton | 3 | 2 |
| Sun 16:30 | Liverpool v Man City | 4 | 4 |
| Mon 20:00 | Coventry v Newcastle | 3 | 2 |
Liverpool v Man City is the only fixture in the round rated 4 for both sides. Every other game has at least one team facing a 3 or easier.
The captaincy problem, stated honestly
Haaland’s case is strong on its own terms: 5 goals, 39 points, 7.8 points per game, an expected goal involvement figure of 4.95 across the season so far, and 450 minutes — he has not missed a minute. His form score is 7.5.
The case against is the fixture, not the player. City away at Liverpool is the toughest assignment on the board by the FPL API’s own difficulty ratings.
Here is the part most captaincy articles skip. At 73.9% ownership, captaining Haaland is not a decision that wins you your mini-league — it is a decision that stops you losing it. If he hauls and you captained him, you move nowhere relative to the eight other people in your league who did the same. If he blanks and you captained him, you also move nowhere. The only outcomes that change your league position are the ones where you and your rivals differ.
This is why overall rank advice and mini-league advice genuinely diverge, and why we built League Lens — it shows you what your actual rivals own, rather than what the whole game owns.
The realistic alternatives
Groß (Brighton, £5.9m, 29.7% owned) — the standout on current form. A form score of 15.5, the highest of any player in the game, 47 points, 9.4 points per game, 3 goals and 4 assists, and 450 minutes played. Brighton travel to Sunderland in a fixture rated 3 for both sides. He also rose £0.2m this gameweek, the single biggest riser in the game.
Isak (Liverpool, £9.1m, 22.1% owned) — 33 points, 4 goals and 3.62 xGI, and he is in the Liverpool v Man City fixture rather than opposite it. The problem is the flag: the API lists a thigh injury and a 75% chance of playing.
Bogle (Leeds, £4.6m, 7.4% owned) — a form score of 10.0, joint fourth-best in the game, with 42 points and 8.4 points per game from a £4.6m defender. But Leeds go to Arsenal in the one fixture rated 5 on the board. Brilliant squad player, poor week to captain him.
Injuries: an unusually crowded flag list
Sixteen players owned by 5% or more carry a flag going into GW6, fifteen of them at the API’s “75% chance of playing” rating. The ones that matter most by ownership:
- João Pedro (Chelsea, 64.7% owned) — knee
- Palmer (Chelsea, 25.3%) — muscular
- Isak (Liverpool, 22.1%) — thigh
- Konsa (Arsenal, 19.2%) — unspecified
- Semenyo (Man City, 15.1%) — ankle
- Gakpo (Liverpool, 12.1%) — ankle · Tzolis (Arsenal, 11.8%) — hamstring · Rice (Arsenal, 11.5%) — unspecified
A 75% rating is the API’s way of saying the player trained and is expected to feature, not that he is certain to. With João Pedro owned by nearly two thirds of the game, the Friday press conferences are worth your time this week. We track the updates on team news.
Price changes
124 players have changed price this gameweek so far. Groß leads the risers at +£0.2m; Raya, Konsa, Schade, De Cuyper, Tarkowski, Barnes and Hall have all risen £0.1m.
Prices change at 00:00 UK time under the 2026/27 rules. If you are waiting on team news before transferring, you are trading a possible £0.1m against the risk of buying an injured player — and £0.1m is almost never worth a hit of real information.
Three differentials with the underlying numbers to back them
Players under 10% owned with 300+ minutes and strong expected involvement:
- Barry (Everton, £5.7m, 8.4%) — 3.65 xGI, the highest of any sub-10% player. Everton away at Hull, rated 2.
- Brobbey (Sunderland, £5.7m, 6.9%) — 3.05 xGI and a form score of 9.0, though he carries a hamstring flag.
- Tavernier (Bournemouth, £6.1m, 6.8%) — 2.62 xGI, 31 points, 3 goals. Away at Chelsea is the catch, rated 4.
Note what these have in common: good underlying numbers, real minutes, and a reason nobody owns them. That is what a differential is. A player nobody owns and who also has no xGI is not a differential, it is a punt.
What the data does not tell you
Expected goal involvement is a season total here, not a per-game rate, so players with more minutes are flattered. Form is FPL’s average points per match over the last 30 days, so it drifts even in a week with no football and swings hard off one haul. The FDR ratings are the FPL API’s own and are set before the season reacts to anything. None of this knows whether a manager intends to rotate.
Treat all of it as a way to narrow a shortlist, not to pick for you.
The short version
- Deadline: Sat 10 Oct, 11:00 UK / 14:00 Dubai.
- Haaland is the safe captain, at the hardest fixture on the board, and at 73.9% ownership he mostly protects your mini-league position rather than improving it.
- Groß is the form captain — the best form score in the game, a neutral fixture, and the biggest price rise of the week.
- Check João Pedro before the deadline. Nearly 65% of the game owns a flagged player.
- Differentials only count if your rivals do not own them. Global ownership is a poor proxy for a nine-person league.
