Fixture Difficulty
What this tool does
The Fixture Difficulty Planner shows every Premier League team’s upcoming fixtures in a colour-coded difficulty matrix, using the official FPL API’s Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR). Scan across a row to spot a team entering an easy run — that is usually where your next transfer should come from.
How the ratings work
FDR is the official 1–5 difficulty score FPL assigns each fixture (1–2 green = favourable, 4–5 red = tough), factoring opponent strength and home/away. We display it exactly as the API provides it — no re-weighting — so what you plan against here matches what you see in the official game.
How to use it well
- Plan 4–6 gameweeks ahead, not one. A single easy fixture is noise; a run of three or more greens is a signal worth a transfer.
- Match the window to the player type: premium attackers can beat hard fixtures; budget defenders almost never do. Fixture-proof players don’t need this table — your third midfielder does.
- Check both ends of a swing: the best moves sell a player entering a red patch to fund one entering a green patch.
Limitations
FDR is a model, not a guarantee — it lags sudden form changes (a struggling “big” team keeps a high rating longer than it deserves) and ignores rotation risk and injuries. Treat it as a shortlist builder, then sanity-check the player, not just the fixture. Between seasons the matrix is empty until the FPL API publishes the new fixture list.
Frequently asked questions
What does FDR mean in FPL?
Fixture Difficulty Rating — the official 1–5 difficulty score FPL assigns every fixture for planning purposes.
How far ahead should I plan transfers?
Most strong managers plan 4–6 gameweeks out and re-check weekly, since injuries and price moves change the plan.
Is a green fixture always a good pick?
No — an easy fixture for the team doesn’t help if your player is rotated. Fixture first, then minutes, then form.

FPL Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR)
Plan your transfers and captain picks using the Fantasy Premier League fixture difficulty matrix. See at a glance which teams have the easiest upcoming fixtures, helping you target the right players for the next 3-6 gameweeks.
How to Use the FDR Matrix
The fixture difficulty rating (FDR) ranges from 1 (easiest) to 5 (hardest). Green fixtures indicate easier opponents, red means tougher matchups. Use this to plan transfers — target players with a run of green fixtures, and consider benching or selling players facing a sea of red.
Fixture Planning Tips
- Plan 3 gameweeks ahead — short-term fixtures should drive your transfer decisions
- Double up on easy runs — if a team has 3+ green fixtures, consider their defenders and attackers
- Avoid fixture traps — a good player facing 4 tough fixtures in a row is better on your bench
- Combine with form data — fixture difficulty alone doesn't tell the whole story
Frequently Asked Questions
What does FDR mean in FPL?
FDR stands for Fixture Difficulty Rating. It's a scale from 1 to 5 assigned by FPL to rate how difficult each upcoming match is for a team, where 1 is easiest and 5 is hardest.
How accurate is the FPL fixture difficulty rating?
The official FDR is a reasonable guide but not perfect. It's based on team strength and historical performance. Our tool enhances the official FDR with current form and home/away splits for more accurate predictions.
Should I only buy players with easy fixtures?
Fixtures matter, but elite premium players like Haaland and Salah can score against anyone. FDR is most useful for mid-price picks and differentials where the matchup makes a bigger difference.
