Greek Super League 1

Olympiacos Piraeus midfielder Diadié Samassékou is no longer the most valuable player in the Greek Super League 1. Giannis Konstantelias from PAOK Salonika, in the meantime, is the biggest winner of the Greek update in which 49 players received new market values. Konsantelias saw his market value increase by 900%, which makes him the most valuable U20 player in the Greek first division. Among the players updated were also US men’s national team player Konrad de la Fuente, who saw his value drop.

First in the market value ranking is now Sergi Canós, who joined Olympiacos this winter on loan from Brentford. Canós market value is €12m, €2m more than Samassékou, who has struggled since joining Olympiacos on loan from Hoffenheim and, as a result, saw his market value drop from €12m to €10m. Samassékou now remains just ahead of Colombian star midfielder James, who remains unchanged but is out with an injury at the moment.

Olympiacos, in general, have been one of the big losers of the market value update. Greek’s record champions have struggled this season and are five points behind league leaders Panathinaikos. The main reason for Olympiacos’ poor season has been a catastrophic transfer policy. Among the new signings that have struggled is American winger De la Fuente. The 21-year-old winger has managed just five appearances since joining the club in August and has been dropped from the squad entirely in September. A transfer to England in January failed at the last moment, and his market value dropped by €1.5m to now €3m.

Konstantelias the biggest winner – Arsenal among the clubs interested

The big winner of the update is PAOK’s attacking midfielder Konstantelias. The 19-year-old sees his market value grow from €400,000 to €4m. “Konstantelias’ spectacular assist in the 2-0 win against AEK when he was on his back but still managed to move the ball on to Khaley Narey put him in the international spotlight,” TM market value admin To-Piratiko said. “Konstantelias has been with PAOK since 2013 and made his league debut in 2021. He was on loan at KAS Eupen for the second half of the 2021/22 season and, upon his return to PAOK, became an important member of the first team under head coach Razvan Lucescu.”

Those performances have not been left unnoticed, and the Greek talent is now being scouted by countless clubs. “Konstantelias has been linked with Red Bull Salzburg, Galatasaray, Milan, and Arsenal,” To-Piratiko said. “When he was 15, he went on trial at Barcelona. His family, however, decided against a transfer, which would have earned PAOK €1.5m. He recently renewed his contract until 2027 and received a salary bump that represents his recent performances.”

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
