Aaron Ramsdale took the love from his Arsenal teammates after keeping a clean sheet on his return to Mikel Arteta’s side.

The 25-year-old was recalled to the starting XI with current No1 David Raya ineligible to face parent club Brentford on Saturday.

It was his first Premier League appearance since the 3-1 win over Manchester United on September 3.

His lack of game time was evident in the 13th minute, as his costly error almost gifted the Bees an early lead at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The four-cap England international was robbed of possession inside his box having failed to move to ball on, with Declan Rice eventually sparing his blushes after clearing Bryan Mbuemo’s shot off the line.

Ramsdale eventually began to relax as the game went on, where he was confident in coming off his line to either catch or punch the ball away to ease the pressure on Arsenal‘s backline as they secured a late 1-0 win to go top of the table.

And immediately after the full-time whistle, his teammates were quick to surround the goalkeeper to congratulate him on his clean sheet.

Arteta was full of praise for the ex-Sheffield United shot-stopper, who failed to criticise him over his mistake.

He said: “This is football, I’m so happy with the team, we kept a clean sheet and we move on.

“He has big courage, big personality and that’s why we love him. I enjoy to see the players encouraging each other.”
