Bundesliga Update

It has been a brutal start to the season for Bayern Munich. After three wins in the first three games, the Rekordmeister have struggled and not won a game in the last four matches. The season’s start is surprising; after all, Bayern had a record transfer window in which they spent €137.5 million on five new players. The transfer window also had an impact on the club’s evaluation as part of the Bundesliga Transfermarkt market value update.

Bundesliga market values: All new market values at a glance

Sadio Mané is one of the players impacted by the Bundesliga Transfermarkt market value update, and the Senegalese striker has been downgraded. But while Mané has dropped, other stars have benefitted from the summer, highlighting Bayern’s up and down season thus far. Among the winners, Jamal Musiala certainly stands out. The 19-year-old Bayern Munich forward has seen his market value increase from €65 million to €80m. An increase of 23.1%, which makes Musiala the most valuable German together with his Bayern Munich teammate Joshua Kimmich.

“Musiala has made the famous next step,” TM Bundesliga market value admin Tobias Kröger said. “He has scored six goals and three assists across all competitions and has been outstanding in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Among talents worldwide, Musiala belongs to the top category and isn’t even close to fulfilling his potential.”

Tel & Musiala: Bayern talents are on the up

The attacking midfielder is undoubtedly the biggest winner of the update. Among Bundesliga players, only Jude Bellingham (+€10m to €90m) has a higher market value than the native of Stuttgart. Bellingham and Musiala are also the two most valuable players born in 2003.

Another Bayern player now tops his age group. Mathys Tel saw his market value explode by 900%, from €2m to €20m. That makes the 17-year-old French striker the most valuable player in the world, born in 2005. “Tel is one of the biggest talents in Europe and has shown right away why Bayern have invested €20m,” Kröger said.

Bayern believe that Tel could develop similarly to Alphonso Davies and is part of a transfer strategy in which the club focuses on young talent before their market value explodes. Kröger believes that the investment could pay off right away. “With his top speed, dribbling ability, and instinct in front of the goal, Tel has shown that he is already an important part of Bayern’s squad. There is a chance he could become one of the big newcomers in Europe this season.”

Bayern Munich market value update: Sabitzer up – Mané down

Meanwhile, Marcel Sabitzer has highlighted that players need time to get used to a new club and playing system. At the end of last season, the Austrian was considered a candidate for a transfer, but after a fantastic camp in the United States has secured a place in the starting XI, his market value has gone up from €15m to €20m.

“Sabitzer certainly benefited from Goretzka’s injury, but the Austrian also highlighted that his more defensively sound playing style complements Kimmich,” Kröger said. “Sabitzer was able to increase his status throughout the season, and after several downgrades, his market value is now trending back upwards.”

Finally, superstar Mané sees his market value drop. “Signing Mané was a prestige transfer for Bayern,” Kröger said. But the Senegalese forward has struggled at Bayern towards the season and, because of his age and the relatively low transfer fee, sees his market value downgraded by €10m to now €60m.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
