Tottenham losing Harry Kane in the summer sent the fans into crisis mode and you can’t blame them.

Not only was he their record goalscorer, but also one of the best strikers in World football season after season – those are hard to come by.

“I seriously think we could be fighting relegation next season,” a despairing Jamie O’Hara told talkSPORT in the summer.

Despite 280 goals for his boyhood club, silverware evaded him and that led him to seeking a move to Bayern Munich.

It would not have been the start to life in north London that Ange Postecoglou envisaged.

No direct replacement for Kane was signed with the money going on players like Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and a few more.

Heung-min Son has shifted to centre-forward and already has nine to his name in the first 14 games of the season.

In fact, when compared to the first 14 games of the 2022/23 campaign under Antonio Conte – Postecoglou has made them marginally more prolific.

They’ve won the same amount of games (eight), but scored one more goal with 28 this campaign.

Postecoglou’s Spurs have had more shots and more shots on target, while also creating more big chances.

Spurs from this season compared to last season are pretty evenly matched

So are Tottenham missing Harry Kane? The short answer is not right now. They are fifth in the Premier League and were top before a run of just one point in their last four games.

Their unbeaten start to the season saw the Australian secure the record for the best start to any manager’s Premier League career ever.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface amid that incredible run, Postecoglou was asked what his side’s targets are now for this season following their remarkable start.

“Same as at the start of the year,” he responded. “We’re just going to try to be the best football team we can be, mate, and see where it takes us.”

And as for Harry Kane himself, he’s doing okay in the Bundesliga…

He’s got 18 goals already in just 12 league games and is a shoo-in to win another Golden Boot to add to his collection.

Despite Bayern’s unbeaten start to the season, they aren’t even top of the league. Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen are leading the way.

Breaking his trophy duck in Germany might not be as easy as Kane thinks.
