Intermediary update

In the latest intermediary update, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Greek Super League, and the three most valuable players have all been impacted. Olympiacos Piraeus’ Georgios Masouras has reached the €10 million benchmark and is the biggest winner of the update. The 28-year-old winger increased his market value by €2.5 million and halved the gap to the most valuable player in the league and teammate, Mady Camara. The midfielder dropped by €2 million to now €13 million.

“Masouras scored twice in the cup quarterfinal against Panetolikos guiding Olympiacos to the semifinals,” TM data scout To-Piratiko said. “They were his 39th and 40th goal in an Olympiacos shirt since he arrived in January 2019. The numbers underline his value for his club. His 40 goals came in 32 games, all of them Olympiacos victories—every time he scores, his club wins.”

The winger’s form has been noted abroad. Eintracht Frankfurt are linked with a transfer. Camara, on the other hand, was linked with a move to Napoli or OGC Nice but saw his market value drop. “Guinea didn’t nominate him for the Africa Cup, and his form has been inconsistent.”

PAOK Thessaloniki have also seen players updated. Talented center-back Giannis Michailidis is the most prominent example. The 22-year-old is playing a solid season in the league and Europe; his market value has gone up by €1 million to €4 million. Austrian veteran Stefan Schwab, in the meantime, sees his market value drop by €500,000 to now €1.5 million.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
