Transfermarkt.nl has given 53 Eredivisie players a new market value in an interim update. Two days after being knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16, Ajax have to accept a minus of almost €20 million: As many as eight players around captain Dusan Tadic and defensive veteran Daley Blind are devalued – there is no plus for any footballer of the Dutch record titleholders.
“Blind is getting older and makes a few mistakes here and there that cost his team points,” market value admin DutchAlex says, explaining the devaluation of the Netherlands international from €13.5 million to €10 million. “If we compare him with other left-backs in his age class, he was worth relatively much. With this minus, we are trying to correct that a little bit.” The same goes for Tadic, whose market value drops from €15 million to €13 million. “He is also getting older and had a slightly higher market value than deserved,” DutchAlex continues. “However, compared to other players in their age group, the duo is still in a relatively good position.”
Besides Maarten Stekelenburg (-€250,000), Sean Klaiber (-€1.5 million), Mohamed Daramy (-€1.5 million) and Devyne Rensch (-€2 million), the long-injured Mohammed Kudus (-€4 million) and Nicolás Tagliafico (-€4 million) are the biggest losers in the Ajax squad. The Argentina international, who had recently considered a move to a top club abroad, has lost his regular place in head coach Erik ten Hag’s team this season and, with a new market value of €12 million, falls out of the top 5 in the ranking of the most valuable left-backs from South America.
Gravenberch, Haller & Co. – The most valuable Eredivisie players
There is no upgrade in the Ajax squad. “Sebastien Haller and Antony would have been candidates for a plus, but due to the elimination from the Champions League, we postponed it for a while,” DutchAlex explains. “Ajax are already pretty high in the world thanks to the fantastic group stage. If the team had progressed in Europe, a raise might have been justified, but now we are putting potential winners on hold until the end of the season.”
Karlsson biggest market value winner – Arsenal winger Nelson downgraded
The biggest winner of the update is Alkmaar’s Jesper Karlsson. The 23-year-old left winger gains €4 million. “He makes a strong impression this season and is involved in many of his team’s goals,” DutchAlex says of the Swede, who was directly involved in 26 goals in 38 matches across all competitions. “With his new market value of €14 million, he is getting closer and closer to the top of the Eredivisie.”
Behind Karlsson, Feyenoord’s Orkun Kökcü (€17 million) and PSV forward Cody Gakpo make the biggest jumps at €3 million. “There was a lot of discussion about the market value of Gakpo, as he is one of the most important players at PSV, despite his injury-proneness,” DutchAlex explains the process in the Dutch market value analysis. “On average, the opinion of the forum was around €30 million. But that would be too big an increase compared to Gakpo’s and PSV’s performances, so we willll take an intermediate step for now.” Gakpo rises to €25 million and remains the sixth most valuable Eredivisie player.
No Ajax players – The biggest market value winners in the Eredivisie
Reiss Nelson is the only English player to receive a new market value. The Arsenal winger, who joined Feyenoord on loan last summer, struggled with minor injuries and mostly featured as a substitute – his market value drops from €7 million to €5.5 million.
