Intermediary update 1.HNL

With 28 games played, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of Croatia’s 1.HNL. Luka Ivanusec from Dinamo Zagreb, the most valuable player of the league sees the biggest drop from €13.5 million to €12.5 million. That is still enough to be the most valuable player in the league. Ivanusec managed 35 games across all competitions in which he scored five goals and eight assists. Right now the Croatian national team player is not available, he has been out for a month after undergoing groin surgery.

Ramón Miérez from NK Osijek also saw his market value drop by €1 million to now €3 million. The Argentine was the top goalscorer with 22 goals last season but has struggled this year and has scored just three goals. Not all forwards have seen their market value drop. Dion Drena Beljo is currently on loan from NK Osijek at relegation candidate FK Istra and the 20-year-old has doubled his market value from €1.5 million to €3 million; the highest market value of his still-young career. The forward has scored eleven goals in 27 games, which ranks the U21 national team player third in goalscoring.

Second in scoring is a former Bundesliga striker. Josip Drmic is currently on loan from Norwich City at HNK Rijeka. There the striker has rediscovered his old form and has scored 16 goals in 24 games and his market value increased from €2.5 million to €3 million. That is Drmic’s third market value increase since he has been on loan in Croatia.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
