Agent confirms talks

Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire have turned down an opening bid from Real Madrid for 18-year-old goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina MLSSoccer.com have reported. The Fire have since made a counter proposal that more closely matches their evaluation of the goalkeeper. Born in 2004, Slonina is the most valuable goalkeeper in his age group and ranks 14th overall of all players born in 2004 with a market value of $3.3 million (overview).

Slonina’s agent Jaime Garcia of Starting XI Player Management has since confirmed ongoing talks. Speaking to MLSSoccer.com, Garcia pointed out that Slonina would not be able to turn down a potential transfer to Real Madrid. “It should be an honor for Chicago, and MLS, to have Real Madrid take notice in one of their players,” Garcia said to the official MLS homepage. “We are hoping Chicago can find an agreement with Real Madrid to realize Gabriel’s dream of playing for this club.”

Real Madrid won the 14th Champions League title last week against Liverpool thanks to an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The 30-year-old Belgium goalkeeper is currently the most valuable goalkeeper on the planet with a market value of €65 million. Furthermore, in Andriy Lunin, Real Madrid have another talented goalkeeper under contract. Lunin was once considered one of the biggest goalkeeper talents on the planet but after being signed for €8.5 million from Zorya Luhansk in 2018 has struggled for playing time and has seen his market value collapse to just €2.7 million.
