Magpies keep buying
Newcastle United have found their ideal midfield solution. Olympique Lyon confirmed on Sunday that they have sold Bruno Guimarães to the newly rich Magpies. The French Ligue 1 club published the financial details of the deal. Newcastle will pay €50.1 million—including performance-based bonuses. According to OL, the bonus payments are €8 million, which means the initial fee is €42.1 million.
From Martial to Grealish – The most expensive Premier League signings
Guimarães’ former club Athletico Paranaense will receive 20% of the deal. As a result, Joelinton will remain the most expensive transfer in Newcastle’s club history. The Magpies are unlikely to be done. The club also wants to sign center-back Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion. Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie reported that both clubs have agreed on a fee in the region of £13 million—around €15.6 million—for the defender. The winter transfer costs could, therefore, rise to over €100 million.
Lyon previously purchased midfielder Guimarães for €20 million from Athletico Paranaense in January 2020. The Brazilian replaced Lucas Tousart, who joined Hertha Berlin for €25 million. OL wants to re-invest the Guimarães fee by signing Romain Faivre from Stade Brestois 29.
