The Christmas period is a time where the football comes thick and fast.

This means plenty of travelling all over the country for teams and fans alike as we cram in so much over the festive period.

It means for those of us watching at home, there is a football match on our screens nearly every day from December 21 right through to January 2.

In the Premier League, there are three rounds of fixtures between those dates – Gameweeks 18, 19 and 20.

This means a huge amount of miles for some to travel, while others have the luxury of barely having to travel at all.

Take Man City for instance, they are travelling to the Club World Cup just before Christmas so are set to do more than 8000 miles over the festive period.

Their match against Brentford was due to have taken place on December 22, but has been postponed.

This means for Thomas Frank’s Bees, they are in an unusual situation where they have a 10-day gap between December 17 when they play Aston Villa at home to when they also welcome Wolves on December 27.

They actually travel just 26 miles in total because their only away game is a short hop to Crystal Palace on December 30.

The Sun report that Frank is even considering allowing his players to have Christmas off, which is unusual for players, who normally train when everyone else opens presents.

Even more bizarrely, Brentford do not have a game outside of London between December 9 and February 10.

Despite them having just two games over Christmas, there are still two teams who travel fewer miles than them.

They are also London clubs – Crystal Palace and West Ham.

Palace travel just 18 miles due to having home games against Brighton and Brentford either side of a visit to Chelsea.

The Hammers have even fewer with just 10 miles – a short trip to north London to face Arsenal.

On the other end of the scale, Newcastle will accumulate 846 miles over the festive period. The most for a Premier League team this year that is staying in the UK.

They have lengthy away journeys to Luton and Liverpool to contend with.

Not far behind is Burnley on 716, while Bournemouth (638) and Manchester United (624) also have plenty of miles to do.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp can have no complaints about the amount of miles his side will put in over the Christmas period, as they have the fourth fewest with 104.

Their only away trip is a visit to Burnley on Boxing Day.
