16 goal involvements in 2020/21

Celtic have signed Japanese left winger Kyogo Furuhashi from Vissel Kobe. As the Scottish record titleholders announced on Friday, the 26-year-old signed a contract running until 2024. With a market value of €2 million, he ranked among the most valuable players in the J1 League – and had the second highest market value of a domestic player behind former Olympique Marseille defender Hiroki Sakai (Urawa).

After Shunsuke Nakamura and Koki Mizuno, Furuhashi is only the third Japanese player to join Celtic. The six-time international played 20 games in Japan in the current season and registered 16 goal contributions. He was involved in six goals in the last three games, including a hat-trick against Yokohama FC. “I think he will add something special to our squad and I am sure the way he plays will excite our supporters,” Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said.

For the Scots, Furuhashi is the fourth new signing for the new season. Just last Wednesday, forward Liel Abada joined from Maccabi Petah Tikva as the most valuable player in Israel’s Ligat ha’Al. Before that, the Scottish club had already aquired the services of young duo Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday.
