Frankfurt biggest winners

Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala have today joined an exclusive club of only eight players to have a market value of €100 million or more. The teenagers are the most valuable players at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively and are among the big winners of the latest market value update, in which all Bundesliga players were revaluated. Eintracht Frankfurt received the biggest increase in squad value percentage-wise, while BVB surpassed RB Leipzig again and Bayern moved up to second place in the international rankings.

In the first third of the season, the Bundesliga’s top two talents took the next significant steps in their development. Bellingham, at age 19, captains Borussia Dortmund and has discovered his scoring abilities from midfield. The England international is the most sought-after player in the Bundesliga and rises from €90m to €100m as a result.

The hopes of many German fans for the World Cup rest on Musiala’s shoulders and the Stuttgart native is proving that he can live up to such great expectations at club level: twelve goals and eight assists make him the midfielder with the most goal involvements in Europe’s top leagues and earn him an upgrade from €80m to €100m. This makes Musiala the first footballer in the history of Transfermarkt market values to break this mark wearing the shirt of Bayern Munich and the second German after Leroy Sané. Sané, who rises from €60m to €70m this time, reached his peak value as a Manchester City player at the end of 2018.

Bundesliga update: Moukoko up 100% – Dortmund surpass RB Leipzig

Youssoufa Moukoko, an even younger player who is in top form just in time for the World Cup as well, receives the second biggest upgrade of the update. “A big upgrade was necessary for Moukoko,” market value admin Frederic Hillmann said. “We have observed significant improvements in his performances and he has established himself as an important player in Dortmund’s attack. At the same time, the 17-year-old already picked up a lot of experience in various competitions and has now also significantly increased his scoring rate.” Moukoko needed just 1,097 minutes for his twelve goal contributions, which sees him doubling his market value from €15m to €30m.

In total, the squad value of BVB rises by €25.3m to €507m following six upgrades and three downgrades. As a result, Dortmund overtake RB Leipzig (€480.5m) and once again occupy second place in the Bundesliga market value table behind Bayern Munich. For the German record champions, there is a plus of €42m after seven upward and three downward adjustments. With a new overall value of €920.7m, Bayern surpass PSG to go up to second place in the international squad value ranking. The gap to leaders Manchester City is €170m, or one Erling Haaland.

Eintracht Frankfurt secure the biggest increase in squad value percentage-wise this time and are up 14.3% or €32.5m, rising to €260m. The main reason for this is the club’s front three of Daichi Kamada (+€8m to €30m), Jesper Lindström (+€11m to €28m) and Randal Kolo Muani (+€10m to €30m), who could all play a role at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Kolo Muani on the up after France debut – Schick downgraded

“Kolo Muani has really hit the ground running,” market value admin Julius Weissenstein said, explaining the upgrade of the 23-year-old striker, who arrived on a free transfer from Nantes last summer and is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2027. “The centre-forward performs well as a target player, who can utilise his strength to set up his teammates or finish attacks himself. The first third of the season had several highlights for him: a spot as a regular starter for Frankfurt, his debut for the French national team and his decisive goal to reach the round of 16 in the Champions League.”

The contract of Patrik Schick, whose development at Bayer Leverkusen is heading in the opposite direction as Kolo Muani’s at Frankfurt, also runs until 2027. The scoring rate of the Czech, who found the back of the net 24 times last season, dropped just like Bayer’s points tally. While Schick falls from €50m to €38m, the squad value of the Werkself drops by €52m to €417.9m.

“This season, he has barely made an impact on Leverkusen’s style of play and scored just two goals,” Weissenstein said. “In the group of players with a market value similar to Schick’s, consistency is hugely important to confirm such a high amount. We assume that his current performances tend to scare off interested parties and have adjusted the market value downwards.” In Bayer’s squad, there are only devaluations this time – 13 in total.

Union Berlin receive next squad value plus – Leite one of six winners

Even though Union Berlin lost 5-0 against struggling Leverkusen on the last matchday, the result does not change the fact that the club from the capital played a great season so far, earning them another squad value plus of €10m. Among others, loan player Diogo Leite rises from €7m to €9m and is one of six winners at Union.

“With over 70 appearances for Portugal’s youth national teams, Union Berlin’s new centre-back has always been considered a diamond in the rough in Portugal,” Weissenstein said. “However, he failed to make the final step at youth club Porto, so he joined Union on loan and is now experiencing his breakthrough at first team level. He has been a key player since the first match day and plays an important part in the team’s rise to the top of the table.” Union Berlin hold an option to buy Leite for €7.5m, which would make him the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
