Sporting Lisbon, the current leaders of Liga Portugal, have seen their squad value increase by €40 million to reach €280 million after the latest market value update. This puts them just €9 million behind Porto, while Benfica remains at the top with a squad value of €360 million. Among the players, Viktor Gyökeres and Ousmane Diomande have seen the biggest upgrades in their market values, with Gyökeres’ value increasing by €19 million to €32 million, and Diomande’s value increasing by €15 million to €25 million.

In terms of the most valuable players in the league, João Mário of Benfica and Nuno Santos of Sporting both have a market value of €14 million, followed closely by Alexander Bah of Benfica and David Carmo of Porto. The top three most valuable players are António Silva and Diogo Costa of Benfica and Porto, with a market value of €45 million each.

The changes in market values in Portugal are a result of a strategic change within Transfermarkt, with players who are sold for high transfer fees seeing a quicker increase in their market values. Danish striker Morton Hjulmand, Porto’s Iván Jaime, and Benfica’s João Neves are among the players who have benefitted from the new calculation. Hjulmand’s market value increased by €9 million to €24 million after a strong season in Serie A and a transfer to Sporting. Jaime and Neves doubled their market values to €10 million and €20 million, respectively.

However, there have also been downgrades in market values, including former top talent Trincão, who has struggled to make an impact at Sporting since his transfer from Barcelona. His market value dropped from €15 million to €12 million. Injured defender Jerry St. Juste also saw a decrease in his market value by €3 million to €10 million.

Transfermarkt’s market values are calculated based on various pricing models, taking into account input from the Transfermarkt community. The goal is to estimate the expected value of a player in a free market, rather than predicting a specific transfer fee. This takes into consideration individual transfer modalities and situational conditions.
