Hugo Ekitike set to join PSG – Newcastle and Bayern set to lose out

By

From Stade Reims

Paris Saint-Germain have won the race for talented center-forward Hugo Ekitike. Italian football expert Fabrizio Romano first reported the deal on Friday. According to Romano, PSG will pay €30 million, plus performance-based add-ons to Stade Reims. Ekitike is expected to sign a deal that will keep him at the club until 2027, and a video of the player completing his medical was already leaked on Friday night

PSG have beaten out Newcastle United, who already had a deal in place to sign the striker for around €36 million. Another club interested was Bayern Munich; the Rekodmeister saw Ekitike as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski but will now instead intensify their effort to sign talented Mathys Tel.

Stade Reims, in the meantime, have pointed out that their decision to sell Ekitike came down to the player’s personal decision. “Paris Saint-Germain did not offer the same figures as Newcastle, but we’re happy to let Hugo fulfill his dream,” Stade Reims’ president Jean-Pierre Caillot said to l’Union (quoted by Romano) on Friday. “He’s always been respectful with the club.”
