Free transfer from Crystal Palace
After his contract expired at Crystal Palace, Andros Townsend will continue his career in England and join Everton. The 30-year-old signed a two-year contract on Tuesday—his 13th club in England.
“I think everyone knows what Everton is. It’s a massive football club; it’s very ambitious, a club which has been trying to get back to where it belongs into Europe and beyond,” Townsend said in a club statement. “I’ll be doing all I can to help the Club do that.”
At Everton, Townsend will link up with his former manager. The 30-year-old played the second half of the 2015/16 season for Newcastle United under Rafael Benítez. Crystal Palace then signed the winger for €15.6 million. He played 185 games for the Eagles and was involved in 44 goals. With a market value of €7 million, Townsend was among the most valuable free agents this summer.
