USMNT star

Yunus Musah has been one of the biggest winners of Transfermarkt‘s LaLiga market value update. The 19-year-old saw his market value increase by 66.7% from €15 million to €25 million, enough to become the fourth most valuable US men’s national team eligible player, together with Juve’s Weston McKennie, on the market. Among Americans, only Christian Pulisic (Chelsea), Giovanni Reyna (Dortmund), and Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United) now have a higher market value (overview).

The rise of the Valencia star has been indeed remarkable. The Arsenal academy product has already played 66 LaLiga games (two goals and two assists) and, despite his young age, is one of the key players for Valencia.

“Musah is one of Valencia’s most outstanding players this season,” TM data administrator for Spain Tobias Blaseio said. “His talent has been evident going all the way to his debut in 2020. Back then, he still needed to work on consistency and tactical understanding. Furthermore, the turbulences at Valencia were a major risk for his development. But under head coach Gennaro Gattuso, Musah has been given a central role, and with it, his confidence has grown.” Ultimately, the US star is one of the biggest winners of the LaLiga update.

Musah up by €10m – Just a small step in the development of the Valencia star?

Under Gattuso, Valencia have been a dynamic and attractive team to watch, and Musah has made the most of working with the Italian head coach. The 19-year-old has started in five of the six games this season (two assists), taking on a key role. “The current increase in market value is just a first step,” Blaseio said. “He definitely has the potential for a much higher category.”

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
