Bundesliga market values

The rise of Jordan Pefok in the Bundesliga has been remarkable. Together with Sheraldo Becker, the US men’s national team forward has formed the most dangerous attacking duo in the Bundesliga. The two have been the main reason for Union Berlin’s early success this season. As a result, both received a significant upgrade as part of the Bundesliga market value update.

Bundesliga: All new market values at a glance

“Jordan is the definition of a top signing,” TM Bundesliga market value admin Tobias Kröger said. “The American has convinced from the start, is dangerous and powerful in front of goal, which makes him one of the most in-form players in the league.”

The 26-year-old forward was signed for just €6 million from Young Boys this summer. But after scoring four goals and two assists in eight games across all competitions and contributing significantly to Union’s defensive work as well, Transfermarkt has upgraded his market value from €7m to €10m. That makes Jordan one of the biggest winners of the update and the second most valuable American center-forward in the world (overview).

Jordan: “A steal” for Union Berlin – Trend positive for USMNT striker

“His transfer fee of just €6m can be considered a steal,” Kröger said. “You will definitely not get him for that price in the near future.” Even if USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter continues to not call-up the striker, Jordan’s market value only knows one trend, and that is upwards.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
