Atlanta United are in advanced talks with Vélez Sarsfield to sign Thiago Almada. Argentine journalist Germán García Grova was the first to report that the Five Stripes have made an offer to sign the 20-year-old playmaker. Well-informed South American transfer expert César Luis Merlo has reported that the deal is advanced and that the Major League Soccer side want to acquire 100% of the player’s economic rights.
Signing Almada would be a significant deal for Atlanta United. The 20-year-old became the most valuable player of the Copa de la Liga Profesional de Fútbol following the Transfermarkt Argentina market value update in February. Earlier in the spring reports from France suggested that Olympique Marseille had made a bid to sign Almada for €12-15 million but a transfer fell through due to financial reasons. Almada would become the most valuable player in MLS ahead of LAFC’s Diego Rossi.
