Deal will be official soon

New England Revolution are on the verge of requiring US men’s national team midfielder (eight goals in 33 games) Sebastian Lletget from the Los Angeles Galaxy. The trade was first reported by Tom Bogert from MLSSoccer.com on Tuesday. ESPN has now published the financial details of the trade. The Galaxy will receive up to $1.3 million in General Allocation Money (GAM). The deal is expected to be made official by both clubs soon.

The transfer is structured the following way. The Galaxy will receive $300,000 GAM in 2022 and $200,000 in GAM in 2023. The remaining $800,000 is based on performance-based incentives and spread over the next two seasons. The transfer breaks several records. Lletget becomes the most expensive arrival from within Major League Soccer history in New England Revolution history (overview). The Galaxy, in turn, have never earned a bigger fee from a trade within MLS (overview).

At the Revolution, Lletget will be reunited with head coach Bruce Arena, who was in charge of the Galaxy when Lletget joined the club in 2015. Lletget has scored 30 goals and 20 assists in 177 games for the Galaxy. At the Revolution, the 29-year-old is expected to partly fill the hole in production left by Tajon Buchanan. The Canadian will join Club Brugge in January.
