Potential record deal?
Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders are in talks with Brazilian giants Palmeiras to sign forward Wesley. “I’d love to have it happen tomorrow,” Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer revealed in an interview with Seattle-based radio station 950 KJR. “That would be a big signing for our club. I know there are negotiations going on in the background.”
The SB Nation blog Sounder at Heart had previously reported that the Sounders are in discussions with Palmeiras to sign the winger. “Initial conversations and moves are more than a week in,” a source told Sounder at Heart reporter Niko Moreno this week. “Wesley going to Seattle would be a great move for both clubs, but let’s not think that far—this deal still far from done.”
Negotiations between the two clubs were now also confirmed by Brazilian outlet Globo. According to Globo, Sounders have had two bids rejected for the $2.53 million rated forward. The MLS team has first bid $4 million and then $6.5 million for 70% of the player’s economic rights. Under contract until 2024, Palmeiras consider the forward an important part of the club’s future.
Wesley fee above Lodeiro? – Palmeiras want improved offer
While negotiations are not over, Palmeiras want a significantly better offer to return to the negotiation table. Any deal in the region of $6.5 million would be significant for the Sounders. The club only paid a bigger fee twice—for Clint Dempsey and Raúl Ruidíaz. Wesley would rank ahead of midfielder Lodeiro should terms meet Globo’s report.
