Fans want him to stay

Ahead of the new season, Chelsea want to strengthen one position. The Champions League winners want to sign a new number 9 ahead of the 2021/22 season. With Erling Haaland not available this summer, Chelsea have now focused their attention on a former player. The Blues would like to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.

The Athletic reported on the weekend that Chelsea have made two offers for the 28-year-old Belgian national team striker. The last offer, €100 million, plus left-back Marcos Alsonso was, however, rejected. Fabrizio Romano citing sources within Chelsea, reported that Inter Milan would like to keep the striker. Inter are expecting another offer. Only ten players cost €100 million or more

On Wednesday, Sky reporter Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Lukaku has decided that he wants to rejoin his former club. The Telegraph confirmed that report. Inter sill have to come to terms with the Premier League club. Lukaku desires a return to Stamford Bridge where he failed to break into the first team ten years ago. Inter fans, in the meantime, have protested against a potential sale of their star striker.

Inter striker Romelu Lukaku and an unfulfilled promise at Chelsea

The 98-times national team player joined Chelsea from RSC Anderlecht in 2011. But he was then loaned to West Brom and Everton. The Toffees then bought the forward for €35 million in 2014. Then in 2017, Lukaku joined Manchester United for €84.7 million. Two years later he joined Inter Milan for €74 million. Lukaku is among the top 3 players with the most generated transfer fees. A return to his former club now seems likely.
