Real Madrid, PSG or Juventus? Paul Pogba’s next move after Man Utd summer exit confirmed

Serie A return for midfielder? 

Manchester United have confirmed that Paul Pogba will leave the club for free this summer when his contract comes to an end. The France international made his return to Old Trafford in 2016 when the club signed him from Juventus for £95 million, following a spell at the club as a youth player. The 29-year-old midfielder will become a free agent on July 1.

In a club statement released on Wednesday afternoon that ominously lacked any direct comments from new manager Erik ten Hag or the player himself, Man Utd confirmed that Pogba would depart shortly. “Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United,” read the press release. “We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey.” Pogba, in kind, also released his own statement that seems to share a similar sentiment to the club by saying as much as it could in as few words as possible. “I feel privileged to have played for this club,” wrote Pogba on his Instagram account. “Many beautiful moments and memories but most importantly an unconditional support from the fans.” And with that Pogba’s time at Man Utd came to an end with an almighty whimper. 

Juventus, Madrid or PSG? Pogba’s options this summer 

With little surprise, Pogba will almost certainly be keen to put the frustrating and ultimately uninspiring chapter of his career behind him and make a move in the summer transfer window which will reignite his career. And fortunately for the France international, there seem to be plenty of offers on the table for his talents. The most potent and, at this point, most likely destination for the box-to-box midfielder seems to be a return to Juventus. According to the Athletic, the Serie A giants are in pole position to sign their former star and could certainly use some inspiration in the middle of the pitch. And, as Juve have shown in recent seasons, they’re no strangers to pouncing on a free transfer when it presents itself. 

However, Juventus may have to fight off some stiff competition for the player. According to Spanish outlet Sport, Pogba remains a key transfer target for none other than Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with a move for Aurélien Tchouaméni in recent weeks but if that move doesn’t work out, Pogba may be an ideal plan B for Los Blancos. The player has also been heavily linked with a return to France, where Paris Saint-Germain and their star-studded side would presumably be an ideal destination for Pogba. However, according to L’Equipe, incoming sporting director Luis Campos has ruled out a move for the expensive midfielder and go in a different direction that doesn’t prioritise big names over pragmatic signings.
