Transfer within Série A possible
Brazilian side São Paulo have terminated Dani Alves‘ contract. The Série A side announced that the player went on a training strike. According to the players’ camp, Dani Alves did not receive part of his salary. “São Paulo is bigger than one person,” sporting director Carlos Belmonte said. Media in Brazil reported that the club owns the defender €1.8 million.
On Thursday, São Paulo announced that the club had reached an agreement with Alves to terminate the contract. The former Barça star is now free to look for a new club within Brazil’s Série A as he has played just six games in the league this season. That is the upper limit for a transfer at this point.

Alves returned to Brazil in 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain. The defender has played 95 games (nine goals and 14 assists) and was also the club’s captain. Alves’ contract would have run until 2022. Last May, Alves returned to the Seleção, and he has played 119 (eight goals and 21 assists) for Brazil’s national team—only two players have played more often (overview). Alves was nominated for the World Cup qualification games against Chile (1-0) and Peru (2-0). Alves also won the gold medal at the Olympic Games last summer.
