BVB receive significant fee

The transfer of Borussia Dortmund‘s midfielder Thomas Delaney to Sevilla is now complete. The Danish national team player will earn BVB €6 million, plus significant bonus payments. Dortmund paid €20 million for the 29-year-old midfielder three years ago.

“I am very proud to have played for BVB,” Delaney said in a Dortmund club statement. “This is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I will miss the atmosphere at the SIGNAL IDUNA Park. … I am sad to leave BVB but we are going separate ways on good terms.”

Delaney played a good European Championship, which led to Sevilla’s interest in the midfielder. The left-footed player joined Dortmund from Werder Bremen in 2018 and has played 88 games in which he scored four goals and 11 assists. This season he managed just two appearances from the bench. Delaney played five minutes in the German Cup and another 17 minutes in Dortmund’s 5-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

With a market value of €15 million, Delaney becomes the most valuable defensive midfielder at the Rojiblancos (to Sevilla’s squad) and will also link up with an old acquaintance. Ludwig Augustinsson with whom Delaney played at FC Copenhagen and then at Werder, joined Sevilla for €5.5m just ten days ago.
