Spending continues

Chelsea continue their shopping tour and are now on the verge of signing English winger Noni Madueke from Eredivisie side PSV. Dutch outlets Eindhovens Dagblad and Voetbal International reported that the two clubs have already reached an agreement for a transfer for the 20-year-old. Madueke is supposed to become another alternative in Graham Potter’s attack. Chelsea have recently added forwards João Félix, Mykhaylo Mudryk, and David Datro Fofana to the attack.

The Blues have already spent €425m for new players this season, breaking a record set by Barcelona. Chelsea are believed to have offered €35m plus add-ons of another €5m for Madueke, who is still under contract until 2025 at PSV. The Dutch club rejected an offer of €30m last Friday. The deal would make Madueke one of the most expensive transfers of the January transfer window.

Madueke to Chelsea – €465m spent: Who is on the way out?

The arrival of the English winger means that Chelsea will have spent in the region of €465m on new transfers this season. An enormous sum, and while owner Todd Boehly’s financial dealings and lengthy contracts for the likes of Mudryk and Benoît Badiashile means that the Blues are likely compliant with FFP, at some point, the club will have to move on from some players.

Madueke—once signed—will become the tenth attacking player in Chelsea’s squad. It will, therefore, be interesting to see who will make room for the English forward. While Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, and new signings Fofana and Mudryk seem secure, the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and even summer signing Raheem Sterling could now all face an exit from the club.
