Newcastle United buy loanee Targett – Aston Villa publish fee

“It was an easy decision” 

After his half-season loan, Matt Targett will remain at Newcastle United beyond the 2022/23 season. The 26-year-old left-back has been signed permanently from Aston Villa in a deal worth £15 million—around €17.5 million. Newly rich Newcastle triggered the buy option in Targett’s loan deal and have signed him to a contract that will run until June 2026.

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign a four-year contract with this club,” Targett said in a club statement. “For me, it was an easy decision to make the loan permanent after the welcome I had from my fellow players, the staff, the supporters and the owners so I’m really happy to be here.”
