Süper Lig update

Transfermarkt has revised the market values in the Süper Lig after the end of the transfer window, downgrading many new signings who moved to Türkiye for modest fees. While loan players like Dele Alli and Mauro Icardi will only receive new values in the complete update at the end of October, there have been adjustments to several players who joined on permanent deals. Galatasaray, who have been more active on the transfer market than any other top team, have to accept several devaluations and recorded the biggest drop in squad value. On the other hand, Fenerbahce’s top talent Arda Güler is on the up.

Torreira & Co. - All new Süper Lig market values at a glance

In Sérgio Oliveira, Lucas Torreira and Léo Dubois, Galatasaray have three of the five biggest market value losers in their ranks, which is mainly due to the low transfer fees paid for the new players. Oliveira moved to Istanbul for €3 million from FC Porto and drops from €12m to €6.5m – the biggest downgrade in the league. For Torreira, who arrived for €6m from Arsenal, it goes from €20m to €17m, while Dubois, for whom the Lions paid €2.5m to Olympique Lyon, drops from €10m to €7m.

Overall, Galatasaray’s squad value goes down by €6.4m as a result of the update, but compared to the beginning of the transfer window, there is still a plus due to the many high-profile signings. In addition, in Yusuf Demir, a promising talent was signed late in the transfer window on Deadline Day. The youngster rises by €3m to €9m. The Lions paid a fee of €7m to Rapid Vienna, a clear signal that the future is supposed to belong to the 19-year-old. Scandinavian duo of Victor Nelsson and Fredrik Midtsjö also improve the balance sheet a little with upgrades of €2m and €1.5m, respectively.

Fenerbahce’s top talent Güler on the up – Former top 3 downgraded

In addition to former Borussia Dortmund youngster Emre Mor, who goes up by €1.3m to €3m, in Güler, Fenerbahce also provide the biggest winner of the update. The 17-year-old top talent scored twice in the first two league games and was linked with several European clubs in the summer. The attacking midfielder rises from €6m to €9m and is one of the 25 most valuable players in the league now.

At the top of the rankings, the three most valuable players before the start of the transfer period were all devalued. Ugurcan Cakir (-€3m), Kerem Aktürkoglu (-€1.5m) and Altay Bayindir (-€1m) are henceforth valued at €15 million. “The expected offers from the major European leagues did not arrive for this trio in the summer, which is why the market values were adjusted slightly downward,” Lara Karacan, Lead of Content Transfermarkt TR, said.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
