Market values Turkey: Aktürkoglu biggest winner – Besiktas around Pjanic drop significantly

By FPL360

Update Süper Lig has completely updated the market values of the Turkish Süper LigFenerbahce increased their lead at the top of the squad value ranking with a plus of €1.2 million to €131 million. Titleholders Besiktas, in the meantime have dropped by €15 million to now €111.5 million. League leaders Trabzonspor have reached the €100 million benchmark thanks to a plus of €9.7 million, and Galatasaray only experience a small drop as Marcão, and Kerem Aktürkoglu are two of the biggest individual winners of the update.

Süper Lig: All new market values at a glance

“He has been the young star of the season,” Area Manager Turkey Gökhan Yagmur (Croncho) said about forward Aktürkoglu, who has been the biggest winner of the update with a market value plus of €5 million to now €11 million. “He already showed last season that he could be a star, and he confirmed it this year. Even if Galatasaray are playing a poor league campaign, Aktürkoglu was able to show his skills. The forward has been, in particular, impressive in the Europa League, where he, if you include qualification, has scored three goals and four assists. But he has also been good for the national team, which is why he is being upgraded—significantly, by the way.” Not surprisingly, clubs from Europe’s top leagues have the winger on the radar. Atlético Madrid, Wolfsburg, and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move.

Center-back Marcão sees his market value increase by €4.5 million to now €15 million and, as a result, only Trabzon keeper Ugurcan Cakir with a market value of €17 million is ahead of the Brazilian. “After his suspension but also previously in the Europa League, Marcão showed his class as a center-back: strong in the backline, and he has a fantastic first pass,” Yagmur said. “He has shown some weaknesses in league play, but the general interest in him on the market and his strong performances overall underline that he is one of the most valuable players in the league.”

Szalai & Kim the biggest market value winners at Fenerbahce – Besiktas collapse

At squad value leaders Fenerbahce center-backs Attila Szalai (+€4m to €15m) and Min-jae Kim (+€2.5m to €9m) and future Turkish national team player Ferdi Kadioglu (+€1.5m to €8m) are the biggest winners. “His market value isn’t necessarily rising because of his performance,” Yagmur said about Szalai. “Instead, it is based on the realities of the market. He has been very strong for his national team, and because of that, clubs like Chelsea, Milan, and Napoli are now interested in the Hungarian.”

Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir suffered a heavy shoulder injury and dropped by €1 million to now €15 million. Summer signing Mergim Berisha also dropped by €1 million to now €9 million after struggling in his first half-season in Turkey. Diego Rossi, who was signed last September, dropped by €2 million to now €14 million.

The drop is even more significant at double-winners Besiktas. There the hero of last season, Rachid Ghezzal (-€2m to €9m), is not the only player to drop. But his teammates Miralem Pjanić (-€3m to €15m) and Alex Teixeira (-€2m to €4.5m) also saw significant devaluations. “Besiktas started the season with high hopes,” Yagmur said. “They managed to keep together the championship team and added players like Pjanic and Alex Teixeira. But injuries meant that the team never developed chemistry, and the club lacked depth. Ghezzal wasn’t consistent; Pjanić and Teixeira often missed games injured—age aside, a big factor in the market value determination. Besiktas has been the disappointment of the season.”

The great collective: Trabzonspor with the biggest market value gain

The situation is very different at Trabzonspor, who are currently seven points clear of surprise second-placed Konyaspor. At Trabzonspor, Andreas Cornelius, who has scored nine goals this season, sees his market value increase by €2 million to now €8 million, Abdülkadir Ömür saw his first plus since the summer of 2020 (+€1.5m to €7.5m) and midfielder Berat Özdemir jumps from €5.5 million to now €7 million.

“I didn’t think signing older players like Marek Hamsik and Gervinho would work out for Trabzonspor,” Yagmur said. “But the transfers fit in seamlessly into the first squad, and after the exit from the Conference League against Roma, Trabzonspor started a good run of form in the league. While the big clubs in Istanbul had to fight with several public topics, Trabzon could work in quiet; there have been almost no headlines outside of football. That has helped the team, which seems to be a good mix of young and old players. Furthermore, the team has benefitted that Ömür is finally fit after struggling with injuries for the last two years. If an important player missed a game, another was always available to fill in the void. It is a very good collective.”

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
