Transfermarkt.mx has updated the market values of 474 Liga MX players. Among the biggest losers was Florian Thauvin, who joined Tigres UANL from Olympique Marseille this last summer. Since joining his new club, Thauvin has scored one goal and one assist in eight games across all competitions. The three-times French national team player sees his market value drop by €3 million to now €14 million. He is still the most valuable player in Liga MX.

“In Thauvin, Tigres have signed a star player with immense quality,” TM data-admin Klinsfrau said. “But he still needs to get used to Mexican football and has not shown the level to justify the high investment and salary. On top of that, he disappointed at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.” The tendency is that his market value will continue to drop. Thauvin last saw his market value rise in the summer of 2018 when he reached €50 million. Since the summer of 2020, his market value has been halved.

Cruz Azul‘s Luis Romo (+€2m) and Monterrey‘s Carlos Rodríguez (+€2.5m), on the other hand, are now among the most valuable players in the league. Both now have a market value of €10 million, making them the most valuable Mexicans in the league. Among all Mexican players, only four have a higher market value—the most valuable is Napoli‘s Hirving Lozano (€45m) (overview). “Both midfielders would deserve a chance in Europe and are already on the radar of some clubs,” Klinsfrau said. “Rodríguez, in particular, is one of the most talented players in the league.” The 20-times Mexican national team player is not the only player of his club team to see his market value increase. Overall, La Pandilla can maintain their status as the most valuable squad in Mexico.

Other players have seen their market value drop, however. Among them, goalkeeper Esteban Andrada (Monterrey), whose market value dropped by €3 million to €5 million. Tigres defender Carlos Salcedo sees his market value drop from €6 million to €5 million. Héctor Moreno sees his market value affected by his age and current form. The 33-year-old 114-times national team player is among the 11 players with the most games for El Tri but according to Klinsfrau still somewhat removed from his best form.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
