Transfermarkt.com.ar has updated the market values of 741 players playing in Argentina’s Liga Profesional. As part of the update, young star Julián Álvarez from River Plate saw his market value increase by €5 million to now €20 million he now shares first place in the league with Vélez Sarsfield‘s Thiago Almada. Álvarez was nominated to the national team for the first time last June and has since been a regular member of the team coached by Lionel Scaloni. “He is the standout player in the Argentine league,” Area Manager Argentina Scott Christensen said. “He has been a promising talent for a few years now; this season, he exploded on the scene and has become a star.”
The forward, who has been heavily linked with a transfer to Europe, has scored ten goals and four assists in 12 games this season and is the league’s top scorer. The 22-year-old Martín Ojeda (Godoy Cruz) and 41-year-old José Sand (Lanús) are just behind Álvarez in the scorer list, and both have seen their market value upgraded. While Sand, because of his high age, only sees a minimal upgrade from €150,000 to €250,000, Ojeda sees his market value grow by €1.5 million to now €6 million. Sand’s teammate José Manuel López makes the biggest jump from €75,000 to now €8 million—an increase of 10,500%. “He is one of the biggest discoveries of the season,” Christensen said. The forward made his debut at the start of the year and has been successful ever since.

Other players with market value increases are Colón‘s Facundo Farias (+€6m to €13m), Boca Juniors‘ Aaron Molinas (+€3.25m to €4m), Rosario Central‘s Gastón Ávila (+€2.5m to €5m), Godoy Cruz’s Ezequiel Bullaude (+€2.8m to €3.8m), and Talleres‘ Enzo Díaz (+€2.1m to €4.5m). Talleres had the most upgrades of any club in the first division—15 altogether. Sebastián Villa from Boca Juniors, in the meantime, dropped by €2 million to now €5.5 million and is no longer one of the ten most valuable players in the league. Villa has been under criticism ever since he announced that he wanted to leave the club.
Villa is not the only player to see a drop in his market value. The forward was disappointed that the Xeneizes turned down an offer by Club Brugge in the summer. Transfermarkt understands that the forward, who has not played since July, is currently not training with the first team. Fausto Vera from Argentinos Juniors (-€4m to €6m) and Pedro De La Vega (-€3.8m to €6.2m) from Lanús are two players with significant drops.
