“I felt betrayed”

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he feels betrayed by the club and is convinced that some – including head coach Erik ten Hag – are trying to force him into a move away from Old Trafford.

The Portugal international has proven to be a constant source of drama and unwanted attention for the club off the field this season. After reportedly being denied a move away from Man Utd in the summer, Ronaldo missed the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to “personal reasons” and more recently stormed out of the stadium prior to full time in a Premier League match, which ultimately led to Ten Hag dropping Ronaldo from his squad.

However, any hope that the player would accept a more diminished role at the club now seem unlikely, following Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan, in which he underlines his problems with the club. When asked if he thought the club were trying to force him out, Ronaldo said: “Yes. Not only the coach, but two or three other guys around the club.” Then, when asked if they were at senior executive level, Ronaldo continued: “Yes. I felt betrayed. Honestly, I shouldn’t say that, I don’t know. But I don’t care, people should listen. I feel betrayed and I felt that some people didn’t want me here, not only this year but last year too.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Quotes

Just one goal in 10 games – Ronaldo continues to struggle

While many football fans may sympathise with Ronaldo’s desire to remain the main Man at Man Utd, few fans of the club in particular will understand the star’s remarks about their new head coach. In fact, following an impressive run of form which has seen the Old Trafford club move up to fifth in the Premier League table with just two defeats in their last 10 games, it would seem as though most supporters of the Red Devils are quite happy for Ronaldo to remain a peripheral figure in Ten Hag’s side.

That, undoubtedly, is largely down to the player’s inability to score and create goals like he once could with such ease. So far this season Roanldo has managed just three goals and two assists in 16 games across all competitions, with all but one of those goal contributions coming in the Europa League. In 520 minutes of Premier League football, the 37-year-old forward has managed just one goal to date.

As such, Ronaldo’s antics and complaints about being mistreated at Man Utd seem to be falling on death ears among the club’s support. And unless a genuine contender should arise to sign the player and pay his wages, it seems unlikely that the Portugal international will get his wish of a move away from the club in the January transfer window.
