Deal inching closer

Manchester United have made sufficient progress in talks with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday evening that Man United director John Murtough and Rabiot’s agent, his mother, Veronique. Talks have now significantly progressed even if a final agreement on salaries has not been reached at this point between United and the club.

Between the two clubs, an agreement seems in place. Juventus are set to receive €17 million for the 27-year-old central midfielder. The bigger obstacle has been the player, who has been somewhat reluctant to agree to a deal. United are, however, hopeful that they can convince Rabiot to move to the Premier League after all.

A breakthrough in the Rabiot negotiations would be paramount for the Red Devils. United have struggled to convince players to join the Erik ten Hag-managed club. The club’s pursuit of Barça midfielder Frenkie de Jong and the subsequent rejection of the player has been well documented. For now, De Jong remains adamant that he wants to stay in Barcelona, despite the Catalans’ clear attempts to get the Dutchman off the books. Rabiot’s arrival, however, does not mean that United’s pursuit of De Jong, or a player like him, is over. The Rabiot deal, in fact, has to be seen as a separate part of business as United look to strengthen their defensive midfield.

Rabiot to Man United – Door open for Paredes to join Juventus?

Either way, while Man United have now lined up a player to strengthen a key area in their defensive midfield, Juventus have already lined up a replacement. The Serie A giants have agreed personal terms with midfielder Leandro Paredes but still, need to work out a deal with his club Paris Saint-Germain. According to Romano, the Rabiot deal to United could now accelerate those talks.
