Marcus Rashford came off the bench during England’s 1-1 draw with North Macedonia on Monday night – alleviating fears over a potential injury.

Rashford was forced off during England’s first Euro 2024 qualifier of the November international break against Malta on Friday. The Manchester United forward clashed with international teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold just after the hour mark and was replaced by Cole Palmer.

Gareth Southgate was quick to play down the issue after the match, claiming Rashford was ‘probably okay’. “We just thought given the nature of the collision it was a chance to get Cole into the game,” he added. “I haven’t assessed too much but I think he was okay when he came off.”

Rashford was named in the matchday squad for Monday’s qualifier in Macedonia and came off the bench in the final six minutes. The home side had taken a shock lead through Enis Bardhi’s spot-kick after Rico Lewis was controversially penalised, but England drew level through an own-goal by Jani Atanasov.

Four points from their final two qualifiers leaves England comfortably on top of Group C, having won six and drawn two of their matches. Italy finished second on 14 points, joining the Three Lions in qualifying for next summer’s tournament.

Rashford will now return to Manchester and should be fit in time to face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday. Sean Dyche’s side are still reeling from the 10-point deduction handed to them last week, which has dropped them into the relegation zone.

United are, somewhat surprisingly, the Premier League’s in-form team over the last five games but Erik ten Hag will be far from happy with performance levels. The Dutchman will be glad to have Rashford available but may be without Andre Onana, who will miss Cameroon’s World Cup qualifier against Libya on Tuesday.
