Third most expensive signing

Manchester United have completed the signing of Jadon Sancho on a five-year contract, making the Borussia Dortmund winger the second most expensive sale by a Bundesliga club. At United, Sancho ranks among the club’s three most expensive signings.

Dortmund had confirmed the amount on which they and the Red Devils had agreed in an ad-hoc statement in advance. €85 million were mentioned as a transfer fee – there was no confirmation of bonus payments. But even considering the basic fee, the amount exceeds all transfers that have been completed since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis. Kai Havertz, who moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea for €80 million, has now been replaced at the top.

For BVB, Sancho’s departure marks the second-highest revenue generated by a player sale in the history of the club. The two most expensive Dortmund players – Ousmane Dembélé (for €135 million to FC Barcelona) continues to lead the way – are also the most expensive Bundesliga players in history.

BVB “not happy about the money” for Sancho – City to receive part of fee

Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke had already stressed during a press conference after the announcement of the agreement with United: “We are not happy about the money. It was Jadon’s exemplary wish at the end of the day, we would have preferred to keep him here. But he has behaved fantastically and given everything for four years.” According to Kicker, further bonuses are possible in addition to the transfer fee.

BVB now also owe Man United’s rivals Man City a significant additional amount in view of the high fee. According to reports, the Black and Yellows must pay 15% of the full transfer fee to the Skyblues. Sancho had joined Dortmund from Manchester at the age of 17.
