U21 EURO winner

Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha could return to the Bundesliga after his loan spell at RSC Anderlecht. As reported by Kicker, VfL Wolfsburg are in talks with the U21 EURO winner, who made his breakthrough last season with 24 goal contributions in 41 games.

The German club wants to sign the Hamburg native, who is entering the final year of his contract in Manchester, permanently. According to the report, Wolfsburg and the forward have already reached an agreement, currently the two clubs are said to negotiate the transfer fee. As reported by Sportbuzzer, Nmecha could sign a contract as early as Thursday. A few weeks ago, according to Het Nieuwsblad, there was still talk of a move to RB Leipzig. With a market value of €12 million, Nmecha is one of the most valuable Germans abroad.

The striker already played for VfL during a six-month loan period in 2019, in which he made twelve appearances, but mostly as a substitute. He did not manage to score a goal. Nmecha then moved to Middlesbrough in the Championship for the second half of the season, where he was also unable to prove his goal-scoring qualities – something that changed at Anderlecht where he also increased his market value by €8.4 million within one season.

In Wolfsburg, Nmecha would become the second most valuable attacker behind Wout Weghorst. The Wolves currently have four centre-forwards in the squad, including Bartosz Bialek, who is out longer due to a cruciate ligament tear. While loan returnee Omar Marmoush has little experience in the Bundesliga, Daniel Ginczek has been searching for his form for over a year and is entering the final year of his contract. Wolfsburg are preparing for a season with three competitions, as the Champions League awaits after finishing fourth in the table.
