There has been a lot of speculation about it the last few days, now Los Angeles FC have officially confirmed it: Eduard Atuesta will leave the club and join Brazilian first division club Palmeiras. According to sources with direct knowledge of the situation, the fee will be $4 million, plus $3 million in performance-based bonuses. This makes him LAFC’s record departure.
“We are excited for Eduard in the next step of his career,” general manager John Thorrington said. “Since he arrived in our first season, Eduard has been a leader both on and off the field. His contributions in building LAFC have been immense, and we are grateful for how he has represented the Club. Eduard developed into an MLS All-Star and Best XI player in his time in L.A.”
In February 2018, Atuesta moved from his boyhood club Independiente Medellín to join Los Angeles FC, first on loan. Prior to the 2019 season, he made a permanent switch to California for around $1m. Since then, he has been one of the club’s strongest players. In 111 games across all competitions, the 24-year-old scored nine goals and set up 23 others. With a market value of $6.05 million, he was LAFC’s third most valuable player.
