The rumors have been mounting for some time, and it now appears that Toronto FC have landed a major attraction for Major League Soccer. TFC announced on Saturday that they have signed Lorenzo Insigne from Napoli on a free transfer. On Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano reported that Insigne is seriously considering an offer by the MLS club. MLSSoccer.com and Waking The Read writer Michael Singh has suggested that a deal is done and will go through in June.
It is a mega-deal. Fabrizio Romano wrote in a tweet that Insigne could earn $13 million a season with another $5 million in bonuses . It is significantly more than the salary earned by former MLS stars Kaká (Orlando City) and Zlatan Ibrahimović (LA Galaxy). Both made around $7.2 million a season.
Although downgraded in the latest Serie A market value update, Insigne would currently be the most valuable player in MLS with a market value of $38.5 million (overview). “This is a historic and exciting day for our club,” Toronto FC president Bill Manning said in a club statement. “Lorenzo is a world class attacking player in the prime of his career. He was a European champion with Italy and has performed on the biggest stages during his club career with Napoli. Lorenzo has the talent to change games. He plays the game with joy and passion, and our fans and supporters are going to love watching him as a member of our team.”

Insigne to Toronto FC – MLSE significantly outbid Napoli
For Napoli, in the meantime, the transfer is a significant loss.
