Bayer Leverkusen has signed top striker Patrik Schick to a new long-term contract. Die Werkself have renewed the forward’s contract by another two years until 2027. The Czech forward finished second in Bundesliga, scoring with 24 goals in 27 games. As a result, of his fantastic performances, Schick’s market value increased from €23 million to €40 million last season, which makes him one of the 20 most valuable players in the German first division.

“Patrik Schick has had a fantastic season and shown his world-class ability in his position,” sporting director Simon Rolfes said in a club statement. “There are few center-forwards of his caliber on the European stage. Schick 7th in the Golden Boot race – Several top clubs were interested

Schick has played the best season of his career. Second, in Bundesliga scoring, Schick was seventh in the European Golden Boot race. Not surprising, the forward was linked to several top clubs around Europe, including Bayern Munich, where he is seen as a potential Robert Lewandowski replacement. But Barcelona and Newcastle United were also interested. Leverkusen, however, have made it clear that the striker is not for sale. Germany’s magazine kicker speculated that there might be an exit clause in the contract that can be activated in 2025.

Leverkusen bought the 191cm tall striker in 2020 for €26.5 million from Roma. It was the second most expensive signing in club history. Schick has accumulated €76 million in transfer fees throughout his still-young career.
