Kamil Jóźwiak joins Charlotte FC – Derby County receive much needed funds

New Designated Player 

Charlotte FC have signed Kamil Jóźwiak from Championship side Derby County. The Major League Soccer expansion side confirmed the transfer on Friday. Jóźwiak has signed a contract until 2025 with an option for 2026 and will be a Designated Player. Transfermarkt understands that Derby County, which are in significant financial trouble, will receive around $2.6 million—much-needed funds to keep the club afloat until the end of the season. 

“[Jóźwiak] is a talented, technical winger that can play on both sides of the pitch who has started pivotal matches for one of the top national teams in the world,” sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a club statement. “Kamil fills a position of need and is equally gifted in scoring goals and providing assists to his teammates. He has played over 200 professional matches at the club level and is still only 23-years-old with his best years ahead of him.”

The 23-year-old will join his Polish national teammate Karol Świderski, who was signed as a DP from PAOK ahead of the season. Despite being just 23, Jóźwiak already has significant experience. The winger started all three games for Poland at last summer’s Euros and before joining Derby in the summer of 2020 played 123 games (17 goals and 17 assists) for Lech Poznan in Poland. This season Jóźwiak has managed 20 games across all competitions for Derby (no goals).
