Reds need to make room
Jonathan David is being monitored by Premier League club Liverpool. First reported by TSN reporter Matthew Scianitti, Transfermarkt can confirm that the Premier League club is currently monitoring the 21-year-old Canadian LOSC Lille forward. But English sources have told Transfermarkt that interest is at best preliminary at the moment.
Furthermore, there are obstacles for Liverpool to sign David. The Reds have to free up their overseas Brexit quota to bring on the CanMNT striker. Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are for sale. Lille would want to at least recuperate the fee paid to Gent last summer (€27m). Despite Lille’s financial problems, the Ligue 1 champions would want at least his market value (€35m) to agree to a transfer.
David had a slow start after joining Lille last season. After not scoring in his first ten Ligue 1 games, David scored 13 goals and three assists on Lille’s run to the league title.
