Clubs agree fee

James Rodríguez has become unwanted since manager Rafael Benítez has taken over Everton. The Colombian, who has generated €140 million in transfer fees, is supposed to leave the club. Well-informed The Times journalist Paul Joyce tweeted on Monday that according to his information, the playmaker is already in Qatar to negotiate with a new club.

The transfer window in Qatar remains open until Sep. 30, the last opportunity to cut James from Everton’s salary list. Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra from W Radio Colombia reported that the interested club is Al-Rayyan SC. According to him, Everton have already accepted the offer from the Qatar Stars League club; James, however, still has to agree to personal terms.

The Merseyside club signed the playmaker on a free transfer from Real Madrid in 2020. Los Blancos, however, will receive 10 to 20% of any future fee that Everton receive from a potential transfer.

James collected 15 scorer points in 26 games under former Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti. But the playmaker was not always consistent and then voiced his disappointment after Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid before this season. The Colombian seemed to be disconnected from the Toffees for some time, which was evident in a recent post on Twitch. “I don’t even know who Everton are playing…” James said on the stream.

Over Argentina to Europe
Overview
A transfer to Qatar would be James first transfer to a club outside the top 5 leagues since he joined Monaco from Porto for €45 million in 2013—he has since played for Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and then Everton. In his 14 years as a professional, James played for seven clubs in seven countries.
