Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati announced on Monday that they have relieved head coach Jaap Stam of his duties. Assistant coaches Said Bakkati and Yoann Damet have also left the club. Current U19 head coach Tyrone Marshall will take over as the new head coach on an interim basis.
“During our nearly two-month process to identify the next general manager for FC Cincinnati, it was apparent that a head coach change was necessary,” FC Cincinnati president Jeff Berding said in a club statement. “Therefore, after a great deal of deliberation, the club has made the decision to now move to the future with Jaap no longer serving as head coach. We believe a change in leadership is in the best interest of the club at this time, and a new general manager will lead the search for a new head coach.
Stam took over the club in May 2020 and in 47 games in charge has averaged 0.77 points. Despite an investment of over $20 million ahead of the season (to the club’s transfer history) Cincinnati are currently second from bottom in the Eastern Conference.
