Multiple reports
Multiple reports on Tuesday suggested that Héctor Herrera is set to join Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo from Atlético Madrid. According to a report by TUDN reporter Luis Omar Tapia, Herrera will arrive as a free agent and sign a contract until 2025. The report was later confirmed by MLSSoccer.com writer Tom Bogert. The 31-year-old Mexican national team player is expected to earn $6.5 million a season.
Herrera joins the Dynamo after having spent the last nine years in Europe. Signed by Porto for $12.1 million from Pachuca in 2013, Herrara joined Atlético on a free transfer in the summer of 2019. The midfielder has played 245 games for Porto (35 goals and 35 assists) and 71 games (one goal and four assists) for Atlético Madrid. This season Herrera has been a part-time player and his market value has dropped from $24.2 million when he first joined Atleti to just $5.5 million, which would still make him the most valuable player on Houston’s current squad (overview).
