Done deal!
Officially, the Major League Soccer transfer window closed on Thursday. But with deals being concluded late into the night, some clubs have opted to announce transfers today instead. Among them the Chicago Fire, who announced a club-record transfer on Friday afternoon. Joining the club for $5 million is CA Talleres midfielder, Federico Navarro. The 21-year-old midfielder has signed until 2025 with a club option for an additional year and will be part of the MLS U22 Initiative.
“Federico is a very talented defensive midfielder, who fits the demands of MLS,” said Chicago Fire FC sporting director Georg Heitz in a club statement. “Despite being just 21 years old, he has been a consistent starter in one of the most challenging leagues in South America. His aggressiveness and ability to cover a lot of ground quickly will add a defensive mindset and balance to our roster. We look forward to welcoming him to Chicago in the coming weeks.”
Navarro joins the Fire after having made 50 appearances for Talleres. The 21-year-old has also featured for Argentina’s youth national teams. Navarro will be available once he completed his medical and received his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa.
