FC Basel have signed attacker Liam Millar from Liverpool FC’s reserves. The Swiss club announced the transfer on Thursday and the Canadian-born signed a contract running until 2025. The Athletic last reported that the transfer fee is expected to be around €1.5 million (£1.3 million). In addition, the Reds had negotiated a 20 percent resale participation.

“Liam is a mentality player who is not afraid to work defensively and help the team against the ball. He brings an unpredictable and varied element to our wing positions and will thus complement our offense perfectly,” explained Basel’s squad planner Philipp Kaufmann.

Millar moved to Liverpool’s youth system in 2016 from Fulham FC, from where he made the jump to the first team. In February 2020, the Canadian international celebrated his first and only appearance for the professionals in the FA Cup. Last season, he was loaned out to Charlton Athletic in the second half of the season, where he scored nine points in 27 games.
