Bayer Leverkusen have parted ways with winger Demarai Gray after just half a year, reportedly maintaining a balanced transfer record in the process. The striker, who joined the Bundesliga side for €2 million from Leicester last season, is leaving Germany for England with the help of an exit clause set at the same amount. Everton have signed the 25-year-old on a contract running until 2024 (option for a further year).

“Everything fits, including the club’s ambitions and goals,” Gray explained in a club statement. The Birmingham-born player said Everton’s “main goal” is to get back up in the Premier League table.

Gray’s current market value of €8 million is four times lower than the exit clause. He played just twelve times for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Previously, at Leicester, Gray had played 169 competitive games after making his Premier League debut for the Foxes as a 19-year-old in January 2016. A few months later, he celebrated the league title.
