Everton are set to appoint Sean Dyche as the club’s fifth manager in as many years, following a breakthrough in negotiations. According to the BBC, the 51-year-old coach is expected to replace Frank Lampard at Goodison Park and will now be tasked with turning the club’s fortunes around and quickly pull them out of the Premier League relegation spots.

Multiple reports in England suggested that Dyche was part of a two-Man shortlist, which included former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa. However, the Argentine was reportedly unwilling to join the club until the end of the season. As such, Dyche was left as the only suitable candidate and now returns to management less than a year after his last post at Burnley.

The new Everton manager will have a sizable task on his hands, although he may not find it too hard to do better than the Man that came before him. After 44 games in charge of the Merseyside club, Lampard’s record at the club stood at just 1.00 points per game – the worst return for a full-time Everton manager since Howard Kendall in 1998.

In stark contrast, Dyche brings with him a wealth of experience as a Premier League manager. Over the course of seven seasons in the English top-flight with Burnley, the English coach managed to avoid relegation in all but two occasions and even helped Burnley to record finishes, after finishing seventh in 2017/18 and tenth in 2019/20.
