US men’s national team defender Chris Richards could finally find a permanent home. On Monday, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg reported that the 22-year-old has a verbal agreement in place with Premier League side Crystal Palace. A deal with Bayern Munich is now nearing completion. The Rekordmeister wants to generate significant funds to continue restructuring the roster and could receive up to €20 million, with 40% of that fee potentially going to Major League Soccer side FC Dallas.
Bayern’s spending has exceeded €120 million, with Matthijs de Ligt being made official. Those spendings have been balanced in earning €50.5 million on the transfer market this summer. Richard, whose market value is €7.5 million, could generate further funds, even if a portion is transferred to Dallas. Bayern did receive a €250,000 loan fee for Richards, and it is possible that the clause in the original transfer has been fulfilled with that transfer.
Richards, in turn, would finally find a permanent home. The center-back has spent the last 18 months on loan at Hoffenheim. There Richards managed one goal and two assists in 34 games across all competitions. Palace are partly owned by American investor John Textor, who wants to grow the club’s profile in the United States. Bayern paid just €1.1 million to sign Richards from Dallas on a permanent deal in 2019.
